Crypto, 24/7: every token, weekends included

5 October 2026 · EquationDB team

Crypto never closes, and most market databases pretend it does: they keep weekday bars, drop Saturdays and Sundays, and update once a day. EquationDB now carries crypto the way it trades.

What's covered

A new market, crypto, holds every actively quoted crypto USD pair, about 2,000, ranked by market cap, with full daily history. Tokens with no quote in the last 30 days are left out. The universes follow market cap: crypto.top10, crypto.top50, any crypto.top<N>, plus crypto.all and crypto.stablecoins for the dollar stablecoins. The ten largest (stablecoins aside) are in the live tier, with indicators and events.

24/7, weekends included

  • Quotes every 5 minutes, around the clock, Saturdays and Sundays included. crypto.gainers, crypto.movers and crypto.active are re-ranked after every snapshot.
  • A daily bar for every calendar day. Crypto days are UTC days, as the market counts them, and weekend bars are real trading days, not gaps.
  • Full daily history for every token, topped up nightly.
GET crypto.movers10 SELECT symbol, name, last_price, chg_pct, day_volume, mcap

Tokens below a cent

A database that stores prices to four decimals cannot tell 0.0000123 from 0.0000124. So tokens that trade far below a cent are quoted per 1,000, 1 million, 1 billion (or more) tokens, the way perpetual-futures venues quote them, and the ticker says so: 1MSHIBUSD is the price of a million SHIB, 1000PEPEUSD the price of 1,000 PEPE. Returns, volatility, correlations and backtests are unaffected; price_unit tells you the unit, and close / price_unit gives the price of one token.

What you can do with it

Is Bitcoin trading as a tech stock right now?

SELECT a.timestamp, a.close AS btc, corr(a.ret, q.ret) OVER w AS corr_60d FROM bars a JOIN bars q ON a.timestamp = q.timestamp WHERE a.symbol = 'BTCUSD' AND q.symbol = 'QQQ' AND a.timestamp >= '2025-01-01' WINDOW w AS (ORDER BY a.timestamp ROWS BETWEEN 59 PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW) LIMIT -10

Are weekends really quieter?

SELECT symbol, day_of_week(timestamp) AS dow, avg(ret) AS avg_ret, avg(abs(ret)) AS avg_abs_move, count(*) AS days FROM bars WHERE symbol IN ('BTCUSD', 'ETHUSD') AND timestamp >= '2024-01-01' GROUP BY symbol, dow ORDER BY symbol, dow

Does a simple trend rule beat holding?

BACKTEST IN BTCUSD SINCE 2020-01-01 ENTER WHEN close > sma(50) AND sma(50) > sma(200) EXIT WHEN close < sma(50) COST 10 bps

One thing to keep in mind: crypto has seven bars a week, so sma(200) on BTCUSD covers 200 calendar days, not 200 trading days.
